About AcuDen

The AcuDen is an acupuncture clinic based in Balgowlah on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, offering thoughtful, clinically responsible care for adults experiencing pain, stress-related symptoms and nervous system imbalance.

The clinic was created from a desire to practise acupuncture in a way that feels grounded, considered and informed. Acupuncture at The AcuDen integrates classical Chinese medicine with contemporary biomedical and functional acupuncture approaches. These systems are used together to better understand how the body functions. Chinese medicine provides a framework for recognising patterns of imbalance, while modern clinical reasoning helps guide how treatment is applied in a practical and responsive way.

Treatment is guided by careful assessment and ongoing observation, with particular attention to nervous system regulation, musculoskeletal function and load tolerance. Classical acupuncture may be combined with functional acupuncture techniques, including motor point work and electro-acupuncture, when clinically appropriate. There is no fixed protocol. Each session is shaped by how symptoms present on the day and how the body has responded over time, with care delivered in an unhurried and considered manner.

The AcuDen is led by a registered acupuncturist and Chinese medicine practitioner with a background in emergency nursing. Years spent working in acute hospital environments shaped a strong respect for patient safety, evidence-informed practice. That experience continues to inform the way acupuncture is practised, with a measured approach to care and an understanding of when collaborative or referral-based management is appropriate.

Appointments at The AcuDen are focused and unrushed. Time is taken to understand symptoms within the broader context of daily life, stress load, movement patterns and recovery capacity. Treatment may include acupuncture alongside electro-acupuncture, motor point techniques, cupping, gua sha or manual therapy, as well as gentle lifestyle guidance informed by Chinese medicine principles. Progress is reviewed regularly and care is adjusted as needed.

The clinic operates out of pH Clinic in Balgowlah and supports patients from across the Northern Beaches, including Manly, Balgowlah, Seaforth and surrounding suburbs. The treatment space has been designed to feel quiet and restorative, allowing the body time to settle and respond.

Online bookings are available and new patients are welcome. If you are unsure whether acupuncture is appropriate for your situation, you are encouraged to explore the information on the site or get in touch for further guidance.

About Jess

Personalised acupuncture in Balgowlah for the Lower Northern Beaches, with a calm, integrative approach to pain care, nervous system health, and musculoskeletal function.

I’m Jess, an acupuncturist and Chinese medicine practitioner with a strong foundation in biomedicine and over 20 years of clinical healthcare experience.

I began my career as a registered nurse and completed postgraduate studies in critical care nursing. I spent 13 years working in a busy tertiary hospital emergency department, where I developed strong clinical reasoning, a deep respect for safety, and a practical understanding of how the body responds to pain, stress, injury, and acute load.

Over time, my interest shifted toward more holistic, preventative, and patient-centred care. This led me to further training in acupuncture, completing a Bachelor of Health Science in Acupuncture. This education allows me to integrate Eastern and biomedical approaches in a way that is both grounded and clinically informed.

My work focuses on pain management, nervous system regulation, and functional orthopaedic acupuncture. I use techniques such as motor point needling and electroacupuncture alongside classical balance-style Chinese medicine, with treatments guided by ongoing assessment and individual response.

I work closely with the musculoskeletal and nervous systems to support people experiencing pain, stress-related presentations, and functional movement issues. My approach is evidence-informed and personalised, supporting the body’s capacity for regulation, resilience, and recovery.

Outside the clinic, I’m most at home near the ocean, in nature, or spending time with family and friends. These values reflect how I approach health, in a balanced, steady, and sustainable way.

“Acupuncture, a timeless art, need not dwell solely in the past. It serves as a dynamic complement to modern biomedicine, fostering a holistic and inclusive balance in healthcare.”
